Does anyone know of someone who can fix these monitors? I don't remember exactly what happened leading up to it's failure, but screen is now black. We ended up just putting a 250 monitor to keep going, a couple years ago now. We tried the dealership and Farmtronics I believe, but they won't do it. After reading some of the things you guys come up with on here, maybe one of you could? There is nothing in this world that excites me or interests me less than electronics. This is a pretty basic monitor, buttons, not touch screen. We need another GPS for this spring and remembered the monitor sitting on the shelf and thought I would look around first. Bugs me thinking we will have to buy a new monitor, when it's likely just a 25 cent thingy-ma-bob (that's the extent of my electronics jargon, if you want to gauge my knowledge). Any ideas?

Any signs of life to it? I am surprised farmtroics won't have a go at it.

Call PAT Inc in Killarney here, they are the repair center for Trimble. Good people there.
Shame to let a 500 go, they were a super functional monitor.

Ag Express in Ames, Iowa is dang good at fixing monitors. May be worth a call.

I would open it up and take a quick look for any obvious problems and post some pictures. If nothing jumps out at you send it out. Doesn't hurt to check.

Is this the EZ-Guide 500 screen? Not sure I would open it up. I've seen some pictures of the inside of these things just now on newagtalk. talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=769801&DisplayType=flat&setCookie=1 . Don't really see any capacitors that could be leaking. Not sure there's anything in there besides connectors you could wiggle. Definitely worth sending off to someone to fix. Does your local Trimble dealer have any repair channel they can access?

Does your local Trimble dealer have any repair channel they can access? I doubt it's worth opening up but it's not a big deal if you need to. Last winter Trimble had a trade in deal for the EZ steer 500's to upgrade to an integrated setup for our combine. Anyway, they didn't care if the 500 was working or a brick. We had two 500's, one worked with a half glitched screen and the other had a good screen but had other issues. So I opened them up and swapped screens. Just a ribbon connector. However, I really doubt you will "see" any problems by opening it. I would at least contact Pat Inc.

I second cpt USA ag express electronics. I had two john deere brown box monitors repaired one for a hundred fifty bucks and one for around 400 bucks canadian. They are excellent to deal with and will call you if the repair needs more work than originally quoted. For Canadians its handy to have a US post box. Living close to Pembina North Dakota i ship from a company in town directly to ag express. Takes about a day or two to get there. Ag express will ship back to Pembina and then its just a bit of tax and paper work at the border.
It sure is great these people have the skills to repair monitors. Oh they have 3 locations so best to look up there web page and give them a call.
Kevlar the black screen is very common problem and both of my john deere monitors did the same. They said they fix them all the time. When mine blanked out on me i called enns for a new 2630 at the time and that was gonna cost around 7500 bucks. Instead , I borrowed a neighbors to finish seeding and got mine fixed for almost nothing. Man , they are good .

How did shipping work out, @oatking? Did UPS or FedEx gouge you on the return trip? I always wonder how they deal with customs on a repair item like that.

TORRIEM , shipping was UPS and price was 17 bucks american. Actually the advantage of having a US post box is the item can go direct route and save time.

Thanks guys, might have to give both those places a try, just thought I would save some coin if I could. Just use it for steering so it we don't need anything fancy.

No luck yet, just tried PAT in Killarney, they can't get parts for the 500 any more. Waiting to hear back from Ag Express.

Ag Express said they should be able to fix it, will get it shipped out next week and hope for the best. The guy I talked to seemed quite nice and honest.

Well of course, they're from Iowa. We're all basically honest.
