Not sure what we got total as I don’t have a gauge but talked to a couple guys yesterday morning and they were both around the inch and a half but then it rained steady most of the day, we’d be in the two to two and a half inch area I would think, it’s wet, noticed the creek that was dried up has water in it again. Certainly not how I was hoping seeding would start.

Another round of light showers today. A few guys fighting the wind and showers while seeding today . Funny , Kevlar you talk about taking the keys ! I don’t want their keys ! Fighting mud is no fun! Disc drills , I think can look deceiving . I think they still pack a lot in the mud even though the top is smoother than a shank drill ! No crop is up yet from two weeks ago . The neighbours say it’s germinating ! I think those fields will be fine . We didn’t get those hard pounding 3-4 inch rains that pond and rot the seed. I was thinking of taking their keys away from them to stop them from making a mess! Kind of like a drunk driver.

Brother in law in southern Alberta has their rain gauge showing 5” but another was 1” and lots in between. but wind was up to 112k so isn’t sure how you measure rain sideways.

I am not sure what we have gotten so far but I think less than 2 inches. The wind broke one gauge and the other was blocked by buildings. Went to look at some bulls yesterday near Strathmore and saw 3 blown over trucks and one pickup with a holiday trailer. A couple of canvas side trailers with rips and doors blown off as well. There were several buildings with wind damaged roofs and siding. Took the hiway through the reserve and the amount of garbage blowing around was crazy. There is a bit of water running off and ponding but for the most part it is coming slow enough to soak in. A lot of the grass along hiway 36 south of Brooks is still brown and it looks like it was overgrazed badly last year. I heard that turnout on those pastures has been pushed back until at least June 1st. In the couple hours we were gone you could see the bow river had risen about 6 inches and the water had gotten noticeably dirtier. The forecast is saying 24 or 25 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that should get things growing. I see sprayer ruts in the near future.

Forecasting 27C for today! That is more like lake weather instead of seeding weather. It's not raining and drills are going here now. We have lots of moisture for germination. No complaints here.

Seeding conditions are the best we have had in a few years. our wheat is in and the first stuff is starting to poke through. Should finish up the oats today tgen it’s on to some barley.

Just picking up the first load of urea and moving to our south farm and going to get everything set up and ready to go, not sure if it’s going to be dry enough, might need one more day. Might try putting in peas in a day or two at home.

Humidity down to 21 to 26% last few days. Regina EnviroCan shows 21% yesterday. Pretty rare to hit that in July August. With the wind the top inch is drying out fast. Seeded through a lot of low spots that I had to go around last couple years. Nice seeding when able to use auto steer.

Humidity is normally lower in spring than summer. I harvested 20 percent moisture oats one fall, froze it on air and then dried it down to 12 with air in late April/early May.

I had a question for cpt USA . Just curious , in your farming area how many guys run disc drills to seed soybeans ? Does anybody farm with disc drills or hoe drills in your area ? Wasn’t sure how much wheat if any is down in southern Iowa ?

Planting soybeans today. Everyone uses a planter here. Virtually no wheat is grown in Iowa. I'm planting into terminated cereal rye cover crop.
