I want to buy a battery/solar powered electric fencer for my grandfather in law, it's just for our recreational property. He grazes a few cattle there and we need to keep them away from our campers (one decided to walk on one of my solar panels) It's only about a 1/4 mile of ribbon. I'm not afraid to spend some money on a good, quality, farmer approved charger... even it it might be overkill for a very short run. Thx.

The fence is more important than the fencer. Make sure you run at least one ground wire along with the hot, especially in dry ground or winter. Also helps to have the wire spring loaded to help with wire expansion and contraction. If you are running in winter, get one with a large solar panel. I will have to look at the name of the one I use for winter. I believe I got it from UFA. Been running for years and only had to replace the switch(my fault) and the daylight sensor which got cloudy from UV light. I probably could have left it or polished it. It wasn't turning on soon enough in the morning for my liking.

In-laws use Gallagher brand, hard wired and solar/battery packs. They said they have been good. There older so can’t speak of the new models.

Good insulators and 1/16 galvanized wire for the fence. I use several Parmak solar fencers in remote areas, and have a power wizard 110v energizer around the yard. I wouldn’t trade you a pinch of my own shit for a Gallagher energizer, haven’t had much luck with them. I’ve had several 12v and 110 Gallagher’s all of them have been unreliable pieces of crap. The 12v ones burn out the boards frequently and the 110v burn contacts out, I finally tossed them all and switched brands, problems solved. Gallagher’s accessories, insulators, tread in posts etc. are first rate. I’ve got a 10yr old steer that’s legendary in my neighborhood for plowing down fences corrals and anything else in his way, he won’t get within 10’ of the galvanized wire energized by either of those fencers. It’s a Long story why he is still alive🤣.
