Would earlier mean 2019 and older?

also had to replace motor and roller on our fd135, wrote macdon an email, sent them my invoices and they recommended going to my dealer for warranty, i question the fix they had as well, replacements with no changes, and as far as "lubricating every season" that means removing the canvas to get at the bolts on the motor, i did it once, and did not not want to put that canvas together again

Never had to take canvas off to pull motor. Unless the fd1 headers are different.

Never had to take canvas off to pull motor. Unless the fd1 headers are different. To properly align the motor to the roll on the FD1's you pretty well need to open that center draper in order to determine if the roll is turning smoothly and aligned. You install the motor and tighten the nuts. If you can freely spin the roll by hand the spline is aligned and you do not have an issue. If it is really difficult to turn by hand or impossible, Loosen the motor mounting nuts about 1/8". Then get the roll turning by hand and inspect which side of the motor develops a gap. We then measure the gap and shimmed between the motor and mount with washers on two bolts. Tighten it up and the roll should then turn smoothly by hand. Otherwise just to take the motor off you don't have to open that draper canvas. We have two 2018 FD140's. One of them stripped that spline this season and the other one we inspected after harvest and we couldn't pry the motor loose from the roll. So I'm going to assume it is aligned and the motor is seized to the roll because it's not grinding out the spline inside the roll.

So you must have to take the hoses off the motor to rotate it for checking? Am I correct to assume that once it's shimmed and aligned properly you could disassemble it and just put it back the same and it would continue to be fine? I do plan to take my FD75's apart to check and have a spare coming although they are not really available right now. Did both center canvasses this year so I think I have a handle on how it all looks in there, could be different from the FD1 though.

And yes. However, as i mentioned. I would see if the motor comes off easily first. If its tight on the roll, you may as well just leave it alone. It is likely already aligned and not going to strip the spline.
