They can tell all the big farms what to do.

I don't know how the hell Telus thinks it can do all this, I can stand in the middle of my yard and while looking at their tower ten miles away have no signal on my cell, so many areas the equipment and infrastructure is so lacking and they refuse to upgrade, just make empty promises and excuses. Telus is one of the few that still has their heads shoved up Huawei's ass. Customer service consists of call centers somewhere in the East Asian area who are programmed to tell you everything is always your fault. The Preferred Customer Service for long time users no longer exists. Things have sure changed since the days of when they were AGT. Except I really have no choice I would have told them to go fish a long time ago. Bell piggybacks on Telus, must be part of the deal that they get priority on the system, because more often than not, a Bell phone works when Telus won't. Guess that sums up my opinion of Telus and I wouldn't trust them for ten feet that they won't be selling data collected....

More control by global companies over agriculture. Very dangerous path we are on and I am pretty certain all the data mining has already hurt us in the grain markets and other areas like seed pricing, etc.
Doesn't even matter if you don't sign up if they get your neighbors they can extrapolate the data and basically know what is happening. We aren't the customer here, we are the commodity. Perfect example is FBN membership is now free, just make sure you upload all your field maps/yield data/input reciepts/etc.
Here e quote from the Telus email I got, look like they can make yields go up.....must have a rain machine:
"One of the biggest social challenges we face today is the access to quality and safe food that can be traced back from its origin to our dinner tables.
With TELUS Agriculture, we are making a commitment to everyone in the Agri-Business and Agri-Food, Consumer Goods and Retail value chain to create a better flow of information across the food system.
By bringing together leading solutions to securely link the food chain, we will be able to increase yields, returns and efficiencies. Connecting a rural world underserved with communication capabilities, empowering all parties by digitizing information, and creating an exchange for that information helps all parties operate more efficiently resulting in increased yields, improved traceability and sustainable production."

Maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I don't see anything that is going to benefit farmers.

Well there was all those equipment dealers, COOPs, retailers, processors, etc that merged and got bigger eliminating competition in order to lower input prices for farmers while raising farm revenue.
Oh, wait, maybe I have that last part reversed.

Oh Telus. What a wonderful company serving these under-served areas so valiantly. Not. A couple springs ago the MD hit a phone line while cleaning snow out of the ditches. Telus eventually came out to fix it and after they were done, two neighbors found their phone lines had switched. Telus told them hey, at least they had phone service and they could just use each other's phone numbers. No big deal. Eventually after several weeks of telling Telus, no, that's not acceptable, they finally came out and fixed it properly. Which was really just a matter of changing the connection in the box at each house.
Around here there are many places where the phone lines are just draped on fences. Because they aren't buried and just lay in the grass, my neighbor's phone line was regularly cut by the ditch mowing. Last time it happened, Telus said, no we aren't going to fix it. Instead we'll offer you a cell-based service plan that can run your house phones. You'd expect that if they did this the old phone number would port over and work fine. Nope. Telus said it can't be done. So they now have a new phone number that's in a different exchange and a long-distance call from land lines in the area. Nevermind that they lost the phone number their business has used for 50 years.
We switched from Telus to Bell for cell phones a while back and will never go back to Telus ever. The only thing good that's ever come out of Telus is the SmartHub cell-based rural internet service which is pretty good. I'll jump at the chance to deploy Starlink when it's finally offered to customers in Canada.
Back on topic, I've been using FarmAtHand for several years and despite on-going development, it's still a very clunky experience. Now that Telus has purchased it, I doubt we'll keep using it. Honestly I find a notebook in the machines just as useful as a phone app. Might have to go back and look again at FCC's Field Manager Pro. Maybe it's improved since I last tried to use it.

Lol! When they start handing out "free" stuff, you know somebody is making too much money, usually at the expense of those getting the "free" stuff. Just like the chemical companies. Sad to think we feel good when we get something "free" when we are actually subsidizing it.
Good to have discussions on here that give us all a reality check every once in a while when some of us have a bright moment. Not trying to make light of farmers here. I think overall farmers are still more rooted in reality than a lot of folk. Just have to watch that we don't get taken along for a free ride where we don't want to end up.

Just wasted an hour on the phone dealing with Telus, roaming charges from a US tower on my wife's phone. We haven't been in US since February but the crappy reception has our phones going to US towers pretty often. I have a US plan but she has her roaming turned off, not sure how the charge got there. Once the guy found out it was about removing a charge I had to get involved and he needed everything but my fingerprints before he would talk to me. Had to get my licence from truck across yard, etc. While on hold they play some cheesy song repeating over and over: "We're all in this together..." Over and over I tell you, ridiculous.
