Looking for good reman companies for starters and alternators. The wifes wilson alternator crapped out and not even a month in the vehicle. I knew better not to buy a wilson, but it was to only one that wasn't a week away. I have had bendix gear break on wilson starters, solenoid problems, other bad alternators. Just general bad luck with wilson in auto and ag applications. Dixie has been ok, but I don't recall using any in ag.

I always go with Dixie unless I have a unit rebuilt. Have had very good luck with them for many years, guess it be over 30 I been using them and knock on wood, have never had one fail until thousands of hours later.
Found out something interesting this summer, most agents get four dollars more for selling a Wilson over Dixie, big reason why so many push Wilson.
Some rebuild shops will beef up their own rebuilds for ag, but at a cost. I have found for high end units, having them rebuilt is cheaper than buying reman, however on the common units like Delco for example, the remans or Chinese are like two to one compared to rebuild costs.
I have found with some applications its cheaper to buy a new one, while they may be Chinese you get to keep your core at no cost, which I then take in and have rebuilt and they go on the shelf. Sometimes even if the core charge is low, I'll still keep it even on a reman exchange, ones like Nippodenso and Motorola, some of them are around only 30 bucks, that way I get to keep my OEM unit and take it in and have it rebuilt.
There are still a few shops where you can buy components to rebuld your own, but most often the pricing is such for individual Joe off the street that you might as well take it into your local rebuild shop. I deal with the one in Westlock, he's good, drop off a few at a time and never in a hurry, do them whenever he's slow, works for him and keeps my costs down as well.
