What are people using for fly control on cows? I've tried the mineral with garlic and the mineral with insecticide and the cows won’t eat enough of it to make any noticeable difference, I’ve never used the fly eartags, do they work very well.

We have always used the fly tags. I like to think they work to keep them off the face and ears. Never really done any trials with them and tried to watch ones with and without.

Yeah, the garlic is just a pre seasoning. I haven't noticed anything spectacular with those blocks. Ear tags work as mentioned to keep them off the head and face. I almost thinking of mowing a few areas in the open to almost bare ground to give them a spot where no mosquitoes and flys can hide.

I don't think mowing areas is an answer, flies will follow the cows.
What is working for me is starting the AFC mineral in early to mid May then adding garlic in the mix the first or second week of June. My second year in a multi herd test of different cocktails/mixtures/theories and this seems to be closest to most effective.

Not sure if there's much wrong with it, but noticed cow/fly control on Pounce/Permethrin label for residual action. Not sure if that'd make sense, as might be fairly pricy depending on what the mix level was at for residual.
Quick google and there are a few 10% mixes that are oil-mixed and applied as well. Suppose that'd have to do it.
