I've heard it's best not to mix lacing styles on one baler. Is this true, or just a marketing ploy? I bought a set of belts that had matco lacing.... and the dealer I bought them from only repairs alligator and clipper lacing. Not sure what to do.

I have never heard of not mixing lacing types. I have had the old vise lacing and gator lacing on the same belt before. The only reason I can think of not to mix is maybe one wears more then onother?? Love my gator lacing though, bought the tool and do my own.

No prob mixing sets of lacings even on the same belt if there is more than one connection, however you must connect only matching ones to each other. Where it becomes an issue is if you ever need to add a length of belt to repair a large rip, when there is multiple styles involved, it limits your options. Thats why its recommended to stick with the girl who brung ya to the dance...
Also on some balers with small diameter rollers, you need to use appropriate lacings as well, but I think most newer balers thats not so much an issue as it was years back.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know I can go ahead and repair with whatever lacing I have on hand at the time. And much cheaper than buying a new belt to stick with matching lacing lol

Old thread but right title. Does anyone know where I can get 7 inch Alligator lacing? Our baler has over 13000 bales and the laces are starting to let go. I just bought the tool from a guy but he didn't have any lacing.

Peavy mart carries here and most other ag suppliers in town. Availability, I can't say as I haven't looked. I know awhile back I had a hard time getting 7inch, ended up buying 14 inch and cutting it in half.
Actually check the dealerships, they are about the same price as peavy lately.

What number or size do you need Gary? I have some different boxes of that stuff, acquired it over the years, mostly longer stripes you cut to length. I never uses it myself, I much prefer Clipper. And I also don't run belt balers either LOL.

Looked up that part number Gary and I see thats the smaller narrow link stuff. I have seen those on balers before, think thats better than the older larger wider link stuff that I have and have used in the past. I think it should be like Clipper, its sized by number, I forgot to look what all I have before I come in, but I wouldn't have any of that anyway. Good luck finding what you need. When a looked up that number, lots of places online come up with aftermarket, even Amazon had a listing.
