Thanks NF for posting these songs. In my high school years and later I was a rock purist. No disco or dance music for me. The local rock station out of Wpg had a DJ named Jake Edwards I believe. He made a song trashing disco. His group or band was called “Brother Jake and the incinerators.” And I believe the song was named “Disco’s in the Garbage.” Since then I’ve learned to appreciate all genres. Except rap. Still can’t listen to that.

In the vein of what's playing today, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Meeting_by_the_RiverAbsolutely nothing up tempo in that album I linked from Ry Cooder. Just two guys plucking strings on acoustic guitars with some steel. No vocals, some small amount of percussion. Very good recording, will certainly tickle the ears if you are into very simple sound of that type of guitar. Then slid this song in right after from Shelby Lynn

Well, the wife isn't impressed with hearing a couple guys play acoustic guitar as Ry Cooder does. But she does like Kip Moore and so his albums are an easy one to choose to stream in the house. Was listening to Wild World again today and particularly this song I wanted to hear today and found a video for Janie Blu.

I think I posted the Peter Wolf video of "come as you are" already. It's a bouncy little tune with the video of Peter hopping along for the entire song in same fashion.
So my covid lock down and blizzard time has me in the basement with the hifi (or midfi) system. Ripping my cd collection to hard drive so I can plug it in to the system for easy access. Not something I did before other than putting some songs on an iPod a number of years ago. Finally taking advantage of this new technology and apps running on mobile devices so I can access all cd's whenever I want. Sprung for the Tidal Hifi streaming service aslo and that is working fine via Shaw satellite internet. No issues. Was using Deezer hifi but that was 320 kb/s at best and Tidal is running a stream at 44.1khz so should be 1411 kbs as I type this. While not really noticeable for just casual listening it is noticeable when sitting down in the evening with the lights off and a drink in the hand.
Got a new music server on order which should show up Friday. It will run Roon and be my Roon core device. Never tried Roon and really have not much experience with streaming apps in general so this is basically some money I am pissing away as an excuse to have something to tinker with over the next little while. The wife is using the functionality of being able to sit at her desk upstairs, turn on the stereo, select music and play in house all via her phone except not much organizing available through the basic apps so hoping Roon will allow us to organize albums better by user and such. Will see. With so much stuff available it becomes a little more important to organize stuff you want to listen to tomorrow to see if you like it vs stuff you know you like so want to keep it in easy reach at anytime.

Coincidentally, just listened to "Dream Boat Annie" album yesterday. Heart has a range of music, songs like Dream Boat Annie and Dog and Butterfly are definitely treats to listen to for myself. I found myself listening to a lot more jazz and folk kind of music last few weeks. "Folk" is an interesting genre as I don't really know what folk is. As one person said, anything with acoustic instruments is folk it seems. So those two Heart songs I mentioned would be folk. A fair bit of country might be folk music if the hats were taken off. Similarly some folk music would be country if the players put hats on. One thing that seems consistent is "country" music doesn't exist on music forums since the 1980s. When people talk of listening to country, it is Pattsy Cline, George Jones, Mearle Haggard and such from 60s and 70s. There is no favorite "country" music star post 1990. Which is probably about right since country isn't much country these days. Although I have been venturing into Americana genre a bit now. Which, coincidentally is sometimes grouped as Americana/folk. Been listening to Eva Cassidy and Keith Greeninger a fair bit. Don't know what genre Eva falls into, jazz, blues, folk depending what song she was doing. Keith is folk, Americana, maybe country, hard to say - what I am noticing is the music that scratches my itch seems to fall into a number of genres. Basically more acoustic stuff, some really good lyrics in Keith Greeninger songs which makes me realize how shallow the stuff on the radio is. First got onto Keith with the song "looking for a home" on this album which was two guys with guitars doing a live studio cut, so different than the album version.. Then started listening to his other albums with a few more players. Music is a personal taste thing, maybe what makes "folk" fit the folk genre is the songs have more depth. bluecoastmusic.com/blue-coast-collection#.Ya-M1djF1xA
