At this point in time, all I say is "have we flattened the curve yet?". There can't be a second wave if there isn't a first wave. Of course people then say I am totally ignoring all the data from the US, Italy, etc. And at the point I can't argue reality anymore. Because it is pretty easy to understand the need to inflate numbers over the last few months. I do mention governors in the US forcing infected people into care homes by government order and that created a massive surge in deaths (data) but the people I bring that up to tend to go blank. So wasted effort.
Sure, there is a virus going around. The question is does the response match the danger. And I have my view on that.
And, as Kevlar noted, non stop coverage on the "pandemic" yet no actually data in the news that informs people. Just info that creates paranoia and hysteria. For example, I have asked a few people how long this virus has been proven to survive on a surface. Heard it could last days when the panic first hit. What is the actual data now? Anyone know? Had the Canadian news infrastructure told us the degree of the danger of a person in a grocery store handling fresh vegetables while infected? How informed are you?
I am happy to be in harvest mode. Sure wish I had satelite radio so I could listen without the repeated announcements of "four new cases in Saskatchewan". Because I automatically think, so what? What is the "case"? Someone on a ventilator, deaths door step? Rushed to hospital? What are the symptoms so we can self monitor? Anyone even know the symptoms you are self monitoring for? No, a "case" is someone had a positive test result. A positive test result and very well no symptoms at all. Because they could very well have antibodies from last years common cold.
It's all a bunch of crap. And while it is nice to tune it out completely, it is affecting a lot of peoples lives. And so if I have a friend being totally irrational (basically a type of hysteria) then I will push my opinions on them. I don't care if they think I am evil.
As I said to the wife when this first started - your role as a parent is to not promote hysteria or paranoia. This is actually a very important point, you all need to think on it. And so you really need to identify if your kids are being subjected to a situation that is centered on paranoia and be an adult and address it. If it means you are one of every 10 parents taking this position then so be it. It is your role as a parent, and also the exact situation that would arise if you had to protect your kids from paranoia. Do what you think is right.
And so I remind the kids often enough - have we flattened the curve yet? Are our hospitals prepared over the 6 months?
Act like an adult, even if you are the one talking "conspiracy theory" and not parroting what the "experts" say. Your job is to think for yourself and educate your kids accordingly.
Don't think I have much else to add to the subject. My opinion was made up long ago.
