I am pretty sure Don will soon join the real combine forum made by farmers for farmers. He is a good guy and was a successful farmer and deserves to be respected on this forum. That old forum is unraveling pretty fast.

Completely agree with you about Don, Oatking. I have a ton of respect for him and his experience. Although I am not sure about him joining. Hopefully, but I am not holding my breath.

Well so far not banned from the site. Checked back this morning, thought I would see if that Chagit fellow had been dealt with after the nice comments I made when I reported him. Now for some reason I can't find the music thread that he had last posted on, not sure if it's been removed? I feel bad for the members there helping out all the "new members", not sure if they just don't see what is going on?

Pretty sad what's happened over there and it seems the problems are growing, well going by what you guys say anyway. That screwball crap is what got my latest ban I think when I called them out on it. It's interesting that you guys say the other/off topics thread is gone but yet some people say its there.
On a side note this place usually has 250-350 people viewing it in a 24 hour period, that seems pretty good.

Yeah, the new chagit account is tough to deal with, as I don't think Don has unlimited mod privileges in any case, so he's probably still locked to the 'you can't straight out ban someone who has been registered for over a month', so even if he wanted to do anything about it, he'd probably still have to get the admin to administer the final rites. As far as Don goes, really good guy in a tough spot. Even when he was straight up telling Donkey to lay off posting in all caps (instead telling him to just type the same stuff in lowercase), guys were up on him pretty darn quick saying he is just trying to ban people who have different viewpoints. As the only actual mod on that entire forum, kinda puts him in a tough spot that he can either do nothing, or get harassed for doing something that might straight up be better for the forum. That being said, I'd daresay the admin is the only person who could do anything about those 'newbie' accounts that started posting for the first time in years (or decade) with legitimate-ish questions. For example: The Farmer Fred, new account (as of 6hr ago), using a static IP address from Sydney, Australia (lots of farming happening in central Sydney, dontchaknow, and wasn't sure if harvest was even started down there yet), asking the guy who posted 6 posts from 4 years ago and hasn't been seen since the original post. www.thecombineforum.com/threads/9660-sts-electrical-issues.266545/#post-3405752All in all, if Don banned him as presumptive spammer, he'd probably start getting in trouble. If he doesn't ban him, super old post has been pulled up successfully and guys will probably chime in to feed more info into the site when the original question asker straight up might be someone in a call center in India hired to spur on activity on forums. Altogether, not sure what could be done on the mod side of things to stop what is going on without making a huge 'censorship' stink.

I looked and can’t find music thread either. I looked and the music thread is still there, down a ways though within the Other/Off Topic heading list of topics as they deleted what had been posted yesterday and can't recall if my comment was the last post before yesterdays or not but that's where it ends 24 days ago so I gather someone was listening to Kevlar and deleted the personality who hasn't run out of lives .... or is this his last life, I've thought that a few times and was wrong each time !

They changed the reason for my ban now. Oops! We ran into some problems. You have been banned for the following reason: Active Participation in community split including solicitation of other users to join a competing forum.
On the plus side we are on the first page of Google search and above some of their sub forum results with bing. This is all on a new to me computer with no browser history etc.

I'm not sure how one can actively participate in a split when you don't post anything.

Stonevalley, this forum does show up on google, just way down. On every other search engine I have tried, it is second behind the old site. So this site is being noticed by search engines, I need to figure out google though. I hope you are right. It's hard to decide which forum to post on to get the answers I am looking for... I wish there were just one. All I know is that Agtalk is way too disorganized for me lol. I recently got a new phone, and when I Googled "combine forum" this forum did not show up in the results at all... even after 5 pages

There is only one haha. Sorry I can't resist.
The only thing I can say is post where ever you feel comfortable. With your new phone, if you logged into your Google account before your search you will get your typical results based on your history.

For the google listings and such, as more content goes on here and it gets older, it'll naturally get higher and higher on the google listings for sure. I'll see what I can do on the back end to bump it up as well, as there are sneaky ways to keep keywords in the back end of it so that google will recognize it a little better while it does its thing.
The tough thing is with like 12 years history and a kajillion posts on the other forums, it'll be a bit of an uphill battle for now.

Am I mistaken to think that if some of us were to Google search this forum and then click through to this forum that would help the forum ranking?

A little bit. A few things effect google rankings (not ranked by importance):
1. Age of site - Overall older sites would seem more legit than newer ones.
2. Search Terms - If you search 'combineforum' this one might show up more; if you search 'the combine forum' the other would show up.
3. Keyword Searches - Biggest differences. If you googled 'Case 4420 not spraying', you would get whatever site has the highest amount of 'organic' keywords that are matched. (Google has smarted up, so if a site was literally just repeated keywords on each page, it should still rank it higher if a site had a handful of mentions of 'Case' and '4420' and 'spraying'.
4. Website Security/Etc - If the site has better guts for security/etc, it'd show better than a site that doesnt. Not sure what ProBoards would have or whatnot, but not much we could do about this part on the site.
5. Whether other sites direct traffic to Combine Forum would make a difference. If a lot of sites link back to a site, it usually legitimizes it as well.
So, I wouldn't go out of your way to search for this forums in google and click on it to bring up more users. If you do it more than once, Google probably wouldn't care for anything more than the first time.
I suppose if you were to google forum post titles, and click on those matched forum posts, that'd do stuff too, but again, I think organically the site will keep building in any case. At the very worst if you are on Twitter or any of that stuff, you could always reference back to the site/post or whatnot as well. That'd do the forums good.
We'll get there. This is a tough time of year, a lot less traffic overall on any ag forums (even AgTalk is a fair bit less content nowadays as well). I actually remembered we can pretty much tell Google to start paying attention to the site, so I registered it under their thing as well, so it should start climbing the results going forward as well because of that.
