So are fungicides bad for soil biology? I have heard that a few times before. Is there a way to test for soil biology and soil health? There is an outfit that tests for 225 different pathogens in a range of crops from a soil test, but I know of nobody that can assess soil biology. taurus.ag/trace-genomics-ramps-up-capacity-to-meet-demand/

From what I saw last year. Yes fungicides cost a lot more than I thought. I had 5 lentil fields. 4 fields sprayed with delaro/ coragen at flowering. One field sprayed with compost extract/ 1 pound ephos/1 pound sugar /200ml monosilic acid. The brix went up 4-5. I got an experienced guy to check my results on brix. He said what I was seeing was right. So never sprayed for grasshoppers on that field. Yield was very similar across all 5 fields. Fall soil tests show 15n - 20 p. Fungicide/insecticide fields. Biological field was 55n 60 p. I got another company to do a 3 zone soil test in the spring to double check biological field. 2 zones were identical and the 3rd was slightly less n and p. I put durum on those lentil fields this year. The biological field was 10 bushel/acre higher with the same fertility program.
This year I didn’t use any insecticide or fungicide. No insect problems. Neighbours were spraying for grasshoppers in lentils then 2 weeks later spraying for aphids.

So your saying don’t spray fungicide and insecticides and our yield will be 10 bushels more? I’ll keep listening, tell me more, please

If you can get your plants healthy enough yes. But if they don’t get to that higher brix level then no.

I haven’t done any of their soil tests. They can bench mark your field. I wouldn’t be too worried about what pathogens are there. Aerobic biology will consume them in an aerobic environment. It’s taken me awhile to figure out how certain chemicals promote pathogens. Eg Pathogens can handle 3000x rate of certain chemical while “good biology”can handle .25x rate. There by turning “good biology “ into pathogen food. Pathogens like dead or poor health food
