Bad year for roads with all the freeze/thaw and now throw some wet snow on there and it goes downhill fast. If you can't keep a crown on the road and the moisture off it's gonna get ruined.
Another big problem is feed trucks that have to run rain or shine. Usually grain farmers haul when the weather is decent, but pigs gotta eat all the time and grid roads suffer. There used to be a seed grower that hauled past my place every spring to a neighboring seed plant just before seeding when the roads were soft, destroyed the road every year. I don't typically haul my grain when the roads are like that because it's hard on everything and I have an interest in keeping the road in good shape. Last year I went out after a small rain on a Saturday when conditions were perfect, used my pulldozer and did a couple of problem miles where there was persistent frost boils and no crown on the road. Those areas packed properly and the road was much better after. I'd almost take a rebate on my taxes to look after some of my local roads, not sure how that would be administered though. If the road is too good other people re-route and destroy it...

Just have to be careful because of liability. If someone crashes on a section of road you fix.

95% of our roads that we use look like this. Few roads have a soft spot in them come spring but they have been there for as long as anyone can remember. The worst ones they have dug up and fixed and seem to be good now.

Your lucky Meskie, the roads in our RM look nothing like that....unless they are roads the councilor uses.

Just got home, these are from the half mile into my house from the main road, no wonder they are in the shape they are in.
