Heard packaged chemicals short here because there is a cardboard shortly.
Can't believe how screwed up this world is right now.

Be very gentle on your implement rims, tried to get on for a bourgault drill today to replace the one that got pooched yesterday, the tire shop we deal with sold out last week, will be another week before he gets anymore, possibly later, and not sure if he can even get any after that. He didn't believe his supplier so he called right to whoever makes them and they confirmed that. Luckily we have a couple extra kicking around. The worst thing with these drill is as soon as the tire goes flat, the rim is usually toast before you can even get stopped. This last harvest I had a blowout on a rear combine tire. Bought a new continental and it took 3 weeks to show up. Luckily I could steal one off a combine my uncle had for sale because I did all of canola harvest and half the wheat before it showed up. I found a decent deal on some used combine take offs so I bought spares just in case for this year www.reuters.com/article/us-agco-supplychain-idUSKBN2C6170

Joy. I just heard from the tire shop that pivot tires are getting hard to get ahold of. Wonderful. We go through half a dozen a year usually. Wish I could find an airless tire that actually worked well on a pivot.
I think I'll ask the tire shop to bring us in a bunch of tires to stock up. Even if it takes a month to get here, we'll have them when we need them. They are expensive but good to have on hand. I think I had better stock up on gearboxes too. And probably replenish my center gearbox and motor parts (stators). I used to laugh at my dad stocking up on so many parts but now I appreciate that. Even though when we cleared out the old shop we ended up getting rid of a lot of parts for machines we hadn't had in decades.

Nothing worse than hearing the words "BACK ORDER" when you need a part. John deere ran out of 4640 monitors locally. Locally meaning canada wide. I let enns use my 4640 monitor so they could get another deal done so in the mean time they let me use a 2630. I ll get a replacement 4640 when the insanity of shortages calm down. Its crazy some guys wont buy now if they dont get exactly the top of the line monitor.! Pretty hard for the sales guys to sell stuff when there is no stuff. Its also crazy how short of deere 1895 disc drills in western canada.
Was planning on putting lsw 1250s on my s680 to replace the duals but i think now i will hope for a dry harvest. Concerned if a lsw goes flat , who will have one kicking around when you need it the next day?

Concerned if a lsw goes flat , who will have one kicking around when you need it the next day? Do you have 4wd on your combine? If not it's been my experience that duals worked better in mud because they pull better where as the 1250s slicked over and spun out until the 4wd was turned on. This was based on 1250 firestone bias ply vs 520 deep lug duals spaced out, not sure what tires you have. The floaters with 4wd are pretty much unstoppable so far though.

I was gonna update the tires on the combines for this fall and am partial to Michelin, but there is apparently no 620/70R42 Michelin available in North America! Thought that would be a pretty common size, but it's cleaned right out and no idea when it might be available. Was quoted $3095 for the same size in Goodyear Opti-trac which seems pricey and I'm leery of the Goodyear tires although the factory ones are 10 year old Goodyears and I'm getting a decent trade value for them. Anyone price tires lately? Is that out of line?

I got sent this price sheet for continentals, second last line is suggested list price, last line is dealer cost. Dont have that exact size on this picture but based on the most similar tires your quote doesn't seem terribly far off Attachments:

That's a large spread in cost and retail, but dealers gotta stock those things and make some money too. My tire guy almost always has what I need, but he seemed a bit frustrated with supply in the current environment.
Probably go with the opti-trac.

Remember your three P's that govern every task: Piss Poor Planning
Been humming and hawing about putting new discs on the drill for next year. Finally decided I would do that so phoned to get some Ingersoll blades from Saskatoon and they had 23 on hand, said they have more on order - they ordered in late February. I would hope I could get the remainder by spring.
Phoned Regina and the McKay units are on hand. More money but they are 5mm thick vs 4.5mm so whatever. Price is up 20% so far this year says guy at Fyfe Parts and goes up another 5% Tuesday. So I ordered them. And I need some new spoons for the cultivator for putting Edge down in spring so going to grab them too.
Talked with a guy at Flaman sales who said bins are up 45% since this whole fiasco started. That would be about 2 years, and going up some more. I haven't priced out bins over the last few years so don't know.
What a scam. I actually don't know any industrial operation that shutdown due to "covid" from mining to transportation to manufacturing to final delivery. And yes, Saskatchewan has operations that cover all those areas, but apparently somewhere around the world many of these types of places have shutdown causing all kinds of issues. I am going to guess that all these shortages seem to be localized to China operations. Inflation can be manufactured.

Yeah. It’s called hyperinflation. Yes it’s real. This time around I don’t know if it will come down?

In a free market system the prices would come down because the cure for high prices is high prices. People stop buying. If people ever learn that we don't have a free market system, but rather a centrally planned and controlled system via central banks/banking and the resulting corporatism then you and I can only guess if prices go up or down. The central planners are the ones who know. After low interest rates can come negative interest rates. Negative interest rates can not possibly exist in a free market system, but can certainly exist in our system.
For many years people would say to quit reading articles on Zerohedge because it's doom porn and they are always wrong because the world is still working fine. The truth is most people have no clue about the very most basic principles of how our world works.

Bins aren’t up 45%. The ones we bought this year are up about 10% over last year but last year was the lowest they had been in 4 years.
Bins had gone up some since we bought ours but talking to the bin guys they have come down a bit since the high in May or June. These are for 2407 hopper bins. I haven’t priced out smaller ones like the 1805 but prices on them have sure jumped since the last one we bought 3 years ago

That makes sense, I would have thought there would be a lot of talk if they were up that much. Could be one specific bin from one manufacturer that had a price hike. That's how it is with many things, a guy has one example stuck in his head so that's what is spoken. We werent talking bins at the time, I was looking for some aeration flooring and so the price of metal going up was brought up.
I was going to get a grain sampler device from Sauer fabrication and spoke to him twice this year, he sold out last year and was going to do a run this summer so talked in May, said check in summer so talked with him last week and he decided not build any - price of metal is too high, up about 30% for him since last year. Talking an item that sells for $150 that he didn't think was worth producing and selling for $200. Figured he will see how market looks next year.

Aeration Floors must be in short supply. Had a bin built end of June and still no floor. Bins builders said it sucks.

I bought a Westeel 1616 fertilizer bin in March I think for 15500. It showed up, was new but year and a half old, had few paint issues (inside was perfect but outside had couple issues, I’m fussy). I phoned to bitch, COOP said sure we will replace it with new stock but it’s 22500. I said no this ones fine send me a rattle can. They did. Haha
