Might be a few more shortages if they don't get that stuck container ship in the Suez canal moving soon. Guessing there are a few "unhappy" people over this. Yeah, I wonder what's in the containers. Probably Canada's Covid vaccine!!! lol

Just talked with a salesman from maxim truck parts and he said enns couldnt get enough jd filters anymore so now maxim is supplying enns. He also said their overnight rush parts orders were taking 5 days to complete, land and ship transport was still a complete mess.

Could be a very interesting year to say the least. Funny thing is, I read in Todays Trucking magazine, that there were 44,000 Class 8 trucks ordered in February, which is a 209% increase over last February. And they go on to say "Capacity tightness is improving trucking conditions to "near record" levels" Not sure what all the new trucks are hauling, and would assume that with everything slowed down trucks wouldn't be needing replacement as soon? I would imagine that sales plummeted last year so maybe that skews the numbers a little.

Number one reason there’s shortages. Retirement. A lot of people in the work force where Close to retirement and said “F” it. I’m pulling the pin. All because of COVID. The only reasoned there’s work in construction and trucking, over half of the work force retired. There for causing shortages. And of course company’s “ gouging the consumer”!!

Going to go get a couple Milwaukee cordless tools today, a m18 hackzall and 3/4 impact. The one shop in Regina that carries a lot of Milwaukee tools says its slim pickings. To put it in perspective the guy said he has enough tools on back order to fill probably 3 semi trailers. No idea when they are getting their orders filled. So getting the last M18 Fuel Hackzall he has and the 3/4 impact will have the one-key crap on it, I don't want that but I can't get the basic impact with friction ring as they don't have stock left. I can perhaps find another one in Regina if I phone around but this shop has been good to deal with in the past so not going to check other places.
No second quarter sales/promos coming up on Milwaukee tools either that they are aware of.

Our local NAPA had annual filter sale in February, only received $25000 on a $40000 order so far.

Geez my Milwaukee angle grinder just packed it in, better find a replacement shortly!
I haven't been posting every time I run into a product that's not available, but it's been fairly frequent. What is not really obvious is the trickle-down effect of all of this. All of the lost productivity and wasted time trying to source product, or simply projects cancelled because of lack of supply. Everything is so inter-dependent that nobody is gonna escape the pain, already reflecting in higher prices for everything.
If something good happens out of this it will be manufacturing moves closer to the consumer, but I'm not holding my breath on that one...

I haven't been out shopping for much or doing repairs as things are pretty much ready to go so kind of in the dark about shortages from personal experience so the Milwaukee tool thing caught me by surprise. It would be interesting to know where the shortages are originating from, not much manufacturing that I know is shut down around here due to covid. Pipelines pump oil, potash mines ship potash, Evraz steel makes pipe and steel, Degelman still building protills and such, and on and on. So it is somewhere "up the supply chain" and my guess is that is stuff originating in China. But then I always had suspicions on "capitalist" companies operating in "communist" China.
On a side note, found my new tool for cleaning up the caraganasin shelter belt. The hackzall with pruning blade is so much nicer than the 50cc 18" chain saw I have. A little slower but one handed operation and no worries about sticking the blade in the dirt cutting off stems at the ground means this will probably be the first choice for such yard work.

Pretty rough, even on the manufacturing side of things, over the last year now we are seeing base materials (plastics, stainless) go from 4-8 week leadtimes to 12-16 weeks, and prices are like 30% up (so far) for commodity materials. Yeah, for the 'price doesn't matter', when no one can make some of it domestically (or they can, but dont have anywhere near the production capacity), prices don't have anywhere to go but up.

Maybe the bright side is that it will make domestic raw material production worth it again. Plastics are made from petroleum, which we have plenty of. I know the US is talking about ramping up domestic microchip production to help meet automotive demand. But these things take a lot of time to get going and by that time things might be moving again. And never underestimate corporate greed either.
At least air freight is still quick and affordable so we can get our entertainment toys in a timely matter. After all that's what matters most these days!

Be very gentle on your implement rims, tried to get on for a bourgault drill today to replace the one that got pooched yesterday, the tire shop we deal with sold out last week, will be another week before he gets anymore, possibly later, and not sure if he can even get any after that. He didn't believe his supplier so he called right to whoever makes them and they confirmed that. Luckily we have a couple extra kicking around. The worst thing with these drill is as soon as the tire goes flat, the rim is usually toast before you can even get stopped.

I had heard some chemicals were short but today I was told that globally Fluroxypyr is not meeting demand. I guess Corteva is a major supplier so they are keeping for themselves but other companies might not get this year. Also MCPA is short.
I've been waiting on Sunnybrook parts for months, but that could be other issues.
