Quit using inhibitors. They kill biology. Use humic at 2-5%. Cheaper and should hold it in a plant available form. Stops leaching and gazing off

www.manitobacooperator.ca/news-opinion/news/growers-struggle-with-high-biomass-canola/I found his article interesting because a few of you guys were commenting on how tall the canola grew! My canola was normal height. At swathing up to my waste and still In total average 45bpa. Really the quarter that went close to 60 didn’t seem any different in height. It was easy swathing . Interesting how it was up to some guys heads !hard to believe !

No progress as far as harvest goes, but at least we’ve got all the oats off the ground and dried. Should have the barley all off the ground and dried tomorrow but have to haul it to another yard. Now just all the wheat to dry, at least some of its in a bin , just have to haul home and dry then haul back, and a couple piles to clean up. Still lots of crops out in the area, looks like the standing wheat is going down, straw is maybe starting to rot? Forecast isn’t good for another week out, who knows after that. Getting late enough that our magic number for taking the canola off will start going up by the day, it’s set at 12% as of now.

Do you have extra labor kicking around ? Man if I wasn’t so far away I would love to run combine in the hills and valleys for you! I have come to terms I will never operate a combine again! I kinda miss the old days as a teenager as my dad had me running the 7700 , 7720 and nh1500 over the years !

Guys I work for are starting custom floating today. The urea is all coated. Same thing over here in the rrv. They are booked solid . It’s really catching on here. Although I still think comparing my yields with spring applied 82-0-0 they are better. But I get why some guy do it , to save time in the spring. In regards to saving money , that’s debatable! We flood a lot in the spring so it’s risky . I don’t feel I am wasting time hooking up a nh3 cart in the spring . My employee drives right up to the back of the tank and hardly have to use much winch cable . With grain prices dropping perhaps fertilizer may offer up some deals in the new year?!

Polished off the last of our crop for the year tonight. A couple more hours and should be done cultivating too. A month or 2 ago I'd have laughed at the idea of breaking yield records, but here we are with new record whole farm averages for every crop. Wish more guys could've gotten the same treatment, but everyone sounds surprised by yields even in the poor areas. Might even be able to get one last day of fishing in yet before winter and our baby show up

I kinda miss the old days as a teenager as my dad had me running the 7700 , 7720 and nh1500 over the years ! Not really interested in running two machines, no manpower to run it, maybe in a few years when my kids and brothers kids are old enough to run one, don’t feel like dealing with the hassle of hired help. We’re at an awkward size, not really enough land for two machines but getting close to the limit for one, but like most people, on a good year we could handle twice the acres, on a tough year wish we had half. So let me see, you’ll come to run a combine, not a peep when I offered you a job cleaning up grain piles?? lol

Kind of combining today 😕. Had a good run yesterday and last night, thought we were going to get rained out around midnight with all the lightning and wind, wasn’t sure what was coming, but never got anything thankfully. Not looking so good today or for a few days for that matter. So much we wanted to get done but the weather just isn’t cooperating. At least I’m getting some use out of my yet unfinished cabin 😄

Didn’t think we’d be combining today, was foggy this morning and a bit of mist. Thought we go get everything ready to go, working at our south farm, left dad nursing the dryer. Sun almost poked out for a second so thought we’d try a test, had to call the kid on call at the elevator because they were closed thinking nobody was going to try today, I spoiled his afternoon off! lol testing 10.9 so good enough for me. Don’t know if anyone else is going, friend at home tried swathed canola and it was 12.3.

Turns out 13.2 is our lucky go number for canola today 🥴. It’s not much fun drying canola that’s over 12% but what do you do 🤷♂️, yesterday was nice and sunny and it’s mostly sunny here today, this morning at home was gloomy, it’s about 12 degrees today so not great for drying, I’m guessing close to two full weeks of combining left, it’s going to be tough chewing from here on out. A part of me is glad we have standing canola left so it does dry a little quicker, but we’re getting close to snow season.

Slowly getting it chewed off, canola was 13.9 at around 1 o’clock when we started, luckily we are working away from home right now, combined yesterday, it almost came dry but people around home was still testing 14-15, sun never shone at home until 2 in the afternoon, days are sure getting short. At least we’re pretty much done the worst of or land if it decides to snow, had this land get canola flattened by snow a few years ago, couldn’t find much worse land to try straight cutting an inch off the ground, 30-40 acres was a good day.

Too bad we weren’t closer. I have canola in the bin that’s around 6%. You could be going at 14 if it could be blended
