Figured we could maybe note some of the stuff we are looking to see at winter farm shows or what we saw that was notable. I know Saskatoon has theirs early January, Ag-Days in MB is late january and there is one in Red Deer??? that maybe already happened. Could be others too.
Looking through the Ag-Days pamphlet it would definitely appear to be a different flavour than three years ago when last held, kids lecturing us on climate change and Peter Zeihan speaking on "Ag at the end of the world". I find it's the little things hidden at a booth that only comes out after a discussion that can be the most useful though.

I think It will be different this year than three years ago. With a fee to get in @ 20$ a pop or so. That will deter lots right there. Hard to say what the mood will be? Some farmers made out like a bandits with a good crop and price. Some not so good. Equipment is at an all time high. should I guy/gal buy or hold off. I know some dealers think their shit don’t stink right now. And theres always those stink oil guys trying to sell you the next best thing. I keep thinking if it wasn’t for the “farmer” these f*ckers would starve

^ Yep when times are good every body wants a piece of you! It would be interesting to visit these booths and get an idea of real info or potential problems. I remember the days when grain companies would put out a special price at ag days. That was a time when prices didnt swing up or down so rapidly like they do now. Tile drainage would be an interesting booth. I have never been to ag days.

I have always gone to Ag Days, not so sure this year though. I said to someone 10 years ago if they charged a quarter to get in the attendance would be cut 50%! We'll see. Not sure of the value factor, it is mostly a social event it seems.

I have never been to ag days. What??? You have been missing out man! I always go all three days, what better to do in middle of January. I agree it is mostly a networking event but I have made deals there too. If looking to buy something it is nice to go back and forth from one brand to another to compare without even leaving a building. Maybe with the entrance fee it will eliminate the urban pen stealers and riff raff, might be easier to talk to the person you need to talk to instead of fighting a crowd. The entry fee is no worse than getting ripped off at lunch...

Talking to a few exhibitor people I know that go to the shows they say that it’s a lot nicer when there is a fee to get in. You get a lot more chances to talk to farmers that actually might end up in a sale. You don’t get the city people asking questions to just ask questions. Although it might help some of them understand farming a little more going to a show.
The entrance fee is also tax deductible.

About one afternoon is enough for me , I can’t stand crowds, and the things I want to look at are crawling with people who usually don’t have a clue what it is. I don’t buy anything new so it’s not like I’m there wheeling and dealing, just seeing what’s new. Been to a few of the seminars, didn’t gain much their either. Usually bump into a few people I know but hard to have much of a visit when it’s so crowded.

Generally end up spending more time visiting in the beer gardens than walking around the show. Or end up going for drinks/supper after the show meet more people and learn more things that way most of the time.

One thing I found disappointing, my buddies from Leon’s won’t have a booth there from what I can see. Too bad, I really wanted to say hi. Then give them a body slam.

^ too bad leons suck so bad, they have good products. I worked off farm for twenty years so it was harder to get off work for ag shows. used my holidays to haul grain. Maybe now that I am a full time lawn chair grain farmer I can catch these shows and have some fun. Actually the way technology changes and all the equipment your iphone can control I think it is worth learning these type of things at the ag show. My new elmers grain cart is pretty high tech and we had to learn the basics on the go. Lots of features on it can make the work day more effeicent.
Its nice to see large groups of people again and making new friends at these shows.

Did anyone take in AgDays today in Brandon? Good crowd and show? Who’s all going this week? I won’t be going but curious how it is?

Going to Brandon tomorrow but I have other stuff to do so not enough time, I don't think $40 for the two of us for 2 hours is practical. So for the first time I will not go to Ag days, Going to a supper with a vendor so should get a first day impression of how it looks. Anyone going?
