Or it could be all those upper middle aged single women stopping him to flirt and bat their fake eye lashes and ask if he would show her his fire hose .... and hasn't made it home as a result

Hey, sorry guys, I did indeed make it home. I believe it ran *maybe 5 miles to the gsllon. Topped out at 95km/hr downhill. First problem after traveling 1000 yards to air up a low tire... puddle of trans fluid underneath. After a couple fuel stops the trans was making quite a mess underneath, found that there was an threaded hole at the top of the trans (possible alternate breather location?) Had a plastic cap plug in it.. with a good hole in the middle, whittled a stick to jam in it, problem solved (after dumping a gallon of oil back in it.
About half way (after fueling up... again) air pressure was building INCREDIBLY slow, so, a quick disassembly and cleaning of the dryer solved that problem.
And the rest went quite well.. infact, it was a really fun trip!
Everything does work.. even the intercom from the controls at the base to end of the ladder!
If I can find time (big if) it will get the ladder removed and shortened into a useable service truck... seriously considering adding aftermarket fuel injection for driveability.

Nothing has changed for posting pictures, but you have to use the reply button not the quick reply box. It will take you to create post and the add attachment is on the top right. Good to see you made it back without too much bad excitement. Still waiting to hear about the middle age woman and the good excitement 8-) .

Beerwiser, in order to find out the real story you may have to enter the local smoke shop and take the stroll of shame into the dingy far back corner and pick up the latest Penthouse magazine, flip to the Penthouse Forum section. Then go down the list of stories to the one listed as "Ladder 69 ... a Farmers awakening"

Nice! Rather than a ladder truck, there's definitely a boom lift in our future. We'd probably use that quite a bit for opening bin lids, fixing yard lights, etc.

Well, its gonna get a light #ratrod treatment that's for sure, in that I'm not changing anything other than removing the ladder and shortening it up to a more convenient length... and adding anything a good service needs. Its essentially rust free, and the service body is perfect and built very strong. Even wired with a light in every compartment. And to the boom lift comment.. yes we got a 60' man lift a few years ago.. we never looked back and rarely touch a ladder anymore... f*ck those extension ladders.. a man lift is light years safer. And we use it way more than we thought. It's a really smart buy.
