Finished with the combine yesterday. Most of the things I want to get done are finished already. Probably go push in some more bushes that drowned out over the wet years. And discover how many boulders and rock piles have been hidden away by trees long before I started driving a tractor.
Got some sample data back from the Canadian Grain Commission harvest sample program. Two Metcalfe barley samples came back at 324 and 318 g/0.5l so 54 and 53 lbs a bu which would put my average yield around 70 bpa. Protein at 12 and 12.2%, elevator says 11.7% so will make malt.
The flax was the disappointment for the year but also surprised how much did fill in later on. The few windy days in late May at +30 deg C that had tractor tire lug imprints filled with blowing sand and dirt probably did the most damage. Bad time for seedlings to be popping up.

He...finally finished fighting with the flax...(neighbours)...actually wasn't too bad but it seems to want to rain just a little bit every night...
Back to canola for another neighbour...hopefully get those things parked without snow on them for the first time in a couple years...
The repair list keeps growing but hopefully they will make it just a couple more days...

Has it been really windy everywhere else? Since the day we finished combining, we have been trying to spray, and honestly have only had a brief window for a couple hours maybe twice in the last 10 days, got to spray 250 acres yesterday, but that is all we have got done. Not just borderline windy either, more like hold onto any doors you open so they don't get ripped off kind of windy. Going to winterize the camper today, giving up on getting one more night out, a little too cold for my liking! Glad to be done combining, but not getting a whole lot of other things I wanted to get done because the weather just isn't cooperating.

Yes it’s been windy here also. Windy all year since we started trying to spray this spring.

Has it been really windy everywhere else? It was around 120 mph here August 10 but it died down since then. Seriously though, yes freaking wind is getting old here too.

This corn crop is pathetic. I've harvested more under 100 bpa then over.

Well In Manitoba. The corn is shit too. I’ll be lucky to avg 110 dry corn. 100 comes first.

What are the corn and soybean yields like outside the path of the derecho this past summer. Haven't talked to anyone really outside the path as it's 100 mile swath. Drought got more than a guy thinks. Nothing to write home about anywhere is grape vine talk.
