Watched the news last night, first time in a few weeks. Frustrating to say the least. Between the bs with corona and now the Ab government wanting to give property tax breaks to oil and gas? Im sorry, property tax is property tax. No one else gets a break on property tax. You pay the same no matter what. You summer fallow, seed, or get drowned/ hailed/ drought problems there is not break. My county gets roughly a mil from oil, goes along way in a small county. So if we loose that, or part of that then what. Park the graders? Raise taxes for everyone else? I asked my counselor this summer if I was going to get a break on my taxes due to the counties neglected drainage and flooding me out. You know the answer. They loose this money and there goes any chance of getting these drainages fixed. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/oil-and-gas-taxes-municipalities-tax-relief-industry-1.5667230

Honestly there is absolutely no point to watching the news. It's all lies and "programming" that affects your outlook on life.
But on the tax issue it isn't surprising that big business or special interest would get special treatment. All this Covid nonsense has amplified the inequity between how people are treated and lack of accountability of those making these decisions. So much power has been handed over to people who aren't even elected because our "leaders" are afraid to be on the wrong side of an issue and suffer the wrath of the "media".
Seriously if everyone stopped watching TV these people would lose a lot of their power over us. Sports is getting same way unfortunately, NHL being only possible exception but if they take a knee I'm kissing them goodbye too. Oh well no big loss, kids sports are much more meaningful anyways.

Over the last few months I have slacked off of even turning on the tv most of the time to watch news as beer this or beer that, people standing well away from others and yet wearing a mask, or wearing one while trying to talk through a mic etc. BS image mind programing and then bleeding hearts stories as well and got to keep that fear of the masses going by pounding at it constantly. I get pissed off listing to the local radio stations as well as they seem to think they have to follow the MSM line also.
When I paid my land taxes I asked the lady as its been put up in an article in the news paper about some oil field companies in my county not paying and what they will do about it and she said they are powerless it seems to do anything. I said so what if I stop paying my land taxes .... oh well then the county would take the land if I was too far in arrears.

Our county assessor office has hired a private, independent company to go door to door on every property in the county with permission to enter all dwellings and buildings in order to get "accurate assessed values". They will not be entering any of my structures.

I have barely watched any news since spring, and feel great doing so, don't miss seeing our brain dead leader spewing his filth every day, but from what I gather, he has been pretty much in hiding since this WE investigation has begun. Thought I would see what the news said last night, and as predicted, didn't get the air time or the real reporting it deserved.
Ont the tax topic, I'm a little worried about what's going to happen to our taxes in the future. With the massive flooding we just experienced, the RM declared a state of emergency. Huge damage to roads and infrastructure. Heard yesterday we now don't qualify for disaster assistance so the RM will have to foot the entire bill. I haven't talked to the Reeve yet to confirm this but did hear it from a credible source. Thanks Pallister, if Portage has any issues in the future, you will be getting a phone call if you hand out any money. The damage in our RM alone is in the millions. And to make things more frustrating, we went camping last week just east of Winnipeg. From Portage to where we went, construction everywhere. Digging up pavement and laying new pavement on roads that were in mint condition. The road I drive on every day was first paved over 40 years ago. Nothing on it since except a few patches each year. I think the province has run out of money with all the handouts from covid, like all the healthcare workers who just got $1300 just for doing their jobs, which for most of them has been less work than it was before because everything was shut down so they could deal with piles of dead people they were supposed to have. Sorry, must be in a bit of a bad mood!

Used to pay almost $100.00 a month for satellite TV, decided too much, changed to minimum of $25.00 per month. Starting to wonder if I should cancel completely, likely turned on TV 3 times in the last 6 months and likely those times were to watch a movie. News is too depressing and really wonder if we are getting the whole story. Also thought I should keep satellite in case I wanted to watch a particular show but still have not. Maybe it is time.

6 months ago I was big into politics, decided to quit completely and see no downside. They'll do something if they want to and me ranting doesn't change anything. We're not on this earth for long, more important things to do.

I still follow politics pretty good and probably more so this year because it is an election year and there is a lot on the line, That said I see someone started a Trudeau and Trump thread on this site and I have yet to look at either of them. Not because I'm not interested, simply because I don't care.

I have been on peasant vision for at least 15 years. Any show that the wife and I enjoy are just downloaded. On the plus side there are no commercials and watch when we get a chance, which isn't much.

I shouldn't say that I don't watch TV, forgot to mention the Tour de France. I really enjoy the coverage of that event with all the beautiful helicopter shots of the farmland/mountains/historical buildings and the drama and strategy of 21 days of racing. I see it's in September this year, so might have to get the kids to record it and watch in the winter. It is literally the only thing I will sit and watch in it's entirety if I had the time, and I don't even own a bike...lol
