My son was going into town last Friday and I gave him a pail to fill with Hytran for our older Case tractors. Anyways, the parts guy at Rocky asked him whether he wanted the "generic" or the "Case" oil. My son told him to fill it up with Case oil because he thought that "Generic" mean't an aftermarket brand of oil to substitute Hytran for a cheaper price.
So now I took a look at the oil this morning and it is brown in color, not red like the regular Hytran I used to get, and it almost seems like engine oil. So, did the parts guy fill the pail from the wrong tap, or did Case come out with a new type of oil recently and my son should have bought the "generic" oil to get the old style red Hytran? Maybe they changed colors, IDK. Thanks

As long as specs are met I wouldn't worry about it, maybe a call to the parts guy just to verify its correct would be smart, we're all human, mistakes happen.
As far as color in oil world goes, it doesn't mean squat. Companies throw in whatever die is needed/required by the customer to give their customers a warm fuzzy feeling.

I use generic and it is brown, but yeah I would call the parts guy just to be safe.

I phoned Rocky this morning and got this straightened out. Basically, I was getting the North49 oil before this that Case also sells as the "generic" oil. The actual "Case" oil is basically the same stuff, just has more of a brownish color to it instead of the red color like the north 49, which was why I was concerned.

I have been noticing that many dealers are bringing in off-brand oil, likely because of high cost of mfr oil. Starts to get confusing but not as bad as different types of coolant. I think I have 4 or 5 different types of coolant on the farm now...although the price of the "Claas" Mercedes coolant I spent the time to figure out that other types of OAT coolant work in there too.
