From what I can work out, the 9X82 series has:
Different engines
A couple of extra airconditioner outlets.
Slightly different gearshift slots.
Hydraulic flow control adjustable in the cabin for all four spools, instead of just the fourth spool.
Anything else? Anything major?

The hydraulic adjustment was an option to have all 4 spools in cab I do believe. The hydraulic pump drive was also updated. The 80 series could be updated to the new style also. I also was told there was a couple updates inside the transmission on the 82 series tractors.

In my mind, the electronic controlled engines of the 82 series are a downside. I would rather have an engine that doesn't shutdown for no reason, limp, derate, or need a new ECM just when it feels like it at a cost of several thousand dollars. Unless perhaps the benefits of the updated driveline make up for this downside? I currently have a 9280 Versatile and I like it but it's too small. I don't really want anything newer, so am trying to work out the differences.

82 was still all mechanical engine. The 84 series had the electronic control. I think they had the n14 Celect red top in them.
I’m not sure how much the updates helped or what they exactly did

I’m not sure how much the updates helped or what they exactly did A 9682 I operated at one stage was definitely an electronic controlled Cummins N14. So I presumed all the 82 series were.

Our 9882 was mechanical. I looked at a couple other 9682 before we bought it and they were mechanical also. These were 97 or 98 model years so the later ones could have been.
