We have MRBs on our 3320 in typically dry SW Sask. After the drill rolled backwards a couple yrs ago the closer tines got bent up and we removed them so we could continue seeding. We’ve ran without them for a couple years now but I’m wondering if about putting them back on to lessen the dirt thrown from the mrb. We put down all dry fert and run the banders at about 2.5-3” deep. We don’t have a problem with mud build up on the discs without them but they do move a lot of dirt. Would putting the closer tines back on be of any benefit?

Same thing happened to me once, quadtrac stalled going up a hill with a full cart... ;-|
I think for me in our clay/loam soil the tines helped to cover the furrow back in and most likely prevent losses. I just bought a new tine and used it as a template to bend the crooked ones back, wasn't the worst job in the world but I made sure I never had to do it again.
They do sell closer wheel kits which would probably keep the disc clean, but I wonder if they would be as effective at closing the furrow. I never did try the wheels.
