How far away are you from town/reserve Rcyung? That is ridiculous to have so many problems with theft. A note with the beware dog sign, get a guard dog on duty sign instead. If your dog does bite the bastard your ass is a bit more covered with the guard dog sign as that is what the dog is for. That was told to me by a cop or lawyer or someone more important than me. I live next to a sioux reserve, not much trouble with them. There are a couple of cree reserves about 25 miles northwest of PA causing a whole lot of problems.

Speaking of reserves, a friend was telling me of something that happened to a neighbour of theirs who farmed. It may have taken place a couple of years ago now and I think at least 6 instances of theft at his farm over a half year period of time and I've forgotten all what was stolen but a variety of things including fuel, tools, possibly even a vehicle. He even had the RCMP involved and they had placed a bait atv on the properly which was then stolen and it turned up at the reserve ( no surprise to them it seemed ) and while I believe there was some charge laid whoever it is or group of was allowed to walk the streets so the typical issue if its a reserve it seems. The farmer was on edge with this going on obviously and it got to him and was so frustrated and he ended up having a stroke. Now he can't do anything, his brain is shot and all he can do is get angry at what he can't seem to remember in how to do anything and I assume his wife has to drive him around. In his case this whole mess blew up his brain and he will require care for the rest of his life and this spring they are selling the equipment and renting out the farm. Apparently a lot goes on within a radius of that reserve and there seems little the police can do about it and even see items they know are stolen sitting on the reserve and don't attempt to retrieve for one reason or another. I can well imagine the natives pull out the race card any time the police push back. I am just glad I am quite far away from any place such as that but doesn't mean I am not vulnerable to idiots out there that randomly hit farms as we are all fair game for those looking to steal.

NF, there is a lot to what a person goes thru living with crime and what it breeds...and again, I have been thru a lot of that shit, and obviously a lot haven't, which is good, damm rights it gets to you where it counts. The one event that no question had the most effect on myself and a few of my old neighbors, was to do with a large ring of dope dealers, and as insane as it sounds, where things come to a head was when I cut hay on one quarter, and unknown to me, they had been growing pot along edge of field on south side of trees, mixed in with tansy and hemp nettle I never saw anything, I used to push the bush especially when doing second cut simply to help control the tansy, and would then chop and blow that swath back into bush with forage harvester, so had the Speedrower pretty much against the trees. Never did find out exactly how much pot was there, but had been enough for them, as vandalism, death threats, threats of burning out peoples yards and assaults all ended up coming for me and a few others. RCMP were hesitant to step in as there was a multi year drug squad investigation going down and they didn't want to blow that over some farmers living in fear. Ultimately one nite in Stony Plain I ended up in a meeting with some higher ups in K Division, few things got laid on the table and a few more said, including, you can shoot them, we can't, just make sure you can prove you, someone else, or your property were being threatened and take them out. Make sure you shoot to kill. Now how about them apples? To this day my old '85 K3500 still bears the scars of an incident that took place where they tried running me off the road one day, have to give the old girl credit, she come out on top of that deal lol, but things did get a bit dicey with the knife business that followed. Ultimately, over the next few months as things kept getting out of hand and both local and K Division realized all hell was about to break loose, there finally was some arrests and things quieted down. But for my neighbors and I, that stayed with us for years. I can't open the damm door on that truck without seeing a dent in the door frame where they hit it with something destined for my head, but was a few inches to the rear so hit the door instead. As to just how fruity these people were, the main one actually come after me right in the courthouse in Stony during court, I won't deny, first time in my life I was ever surrounded by cops with guns drawn like that lol.
So maybe thats why I have a bit of an issue with folks who put the criminals rights ahead of property owners and the general public. Some of us, like Rcyung, we've lived this shit too many times and have had enough.

That was quite the ordeal you and your neighbours went through AB, that would stick with a person the rest of ones life and for sure in your case as attempting to run you off the road and throwing objects to injure or kill and then that court ordeal and like you said the threat of burning someones farm. After a person would live through that, it would be nearly impossible to leave that experience behind and pretend to be living in quaint Smallville ever again knowing what potential crazies are out there and what they are capable of doing.
I think back to a long long time ago when one night the yard light in this yard was shot out at night, turned out a few yards had their yard lights shot out that night and they caught the idiots, they were drunk and somehow thought it was a great idea to drive around shooting pole mounted yard lights but anything could have gone wrong and could have shot through someones house. That reminds me, I have a bullet hole through my mail box that happened within the last couple of years and how did that get there and was that sending a message or was it an idiot going around shooting mail boxes. I rather doubt a responsible hunter was involved.

Lots of people shoot signs and grain bins, likely your mailbox was just a target, why they don't just shoot their beer cans after they are empty?

Your view on things is definitely based on your real life experiences. No wonder people have no faith in the court system, including the cops on the front lines. No wonder morale is so low in the RCMP. The male I referred to in our last incident smashed down the front door of an eighty some year old lady in the middle of the night six months prior to this. He beat her up and stole her car. When he was caught and taken to court the judge felt that his rights were violated because a family member showed the elderly lady his picture on the internet. Like wtf. The community was outraged but of course have no say in the matter. The criminal then spent the next four or five months on a crime spree but always evaded the police. On that final day our place was full of cops carrying M16s (or whatever their version is called). A couple months later my brother was at a gas station in town talking to the owner about the incident. There was a woman in jail guard uniform standing there listening to their conversation. She said oh he’ll want to stay in jail for a while, he has all the drugs he wants in there. Another wtf.

Don't worry about getting in trouble here M F, at least from the administration. If prisons were more like the one in the video, there would be much less problem. Northern Saskatchewan sounds like a good prison site.

I would be in favour of subbing out the prison system to Mexico. Fly them down there and have a Mexican company look after them. Wouldn’t need heated buildings, foods cheaper, wages cheaper. Wouldn’t be any different than car companies or ag equipment manufacturers building parts and machines offshore. Might as well get on the globalism bandwagon and save us taxpayers some cash.

Tougher consequences would help. Need to free up prison space. Execute murderers, rapists and child molesters. Theifs get a hand chopped off. Drug dealers/manufacturers get executed as well.
Mexican style prisons as well, indentured servitude for restitution.

I guess it's a good time to revive this thread now that the price of everything is getting out of hand, and no doubt the crime will rise with it. So far nothing has gone missing from our place yet that I know of, but heard of a place 3 miles from home getting hit up yesterday I think it was. The couple had left for work when the husband got a call from someone saying that there was a vehicle loading up furniture in his yard. So he turned around and hurried home, only to get stopped for speeding. He told the officer what was going on but he didn't buy it. When he got home there was 2 vehicles in his yard loading stuff up so he blocked the lane off, with all the snow they had nowhere to go. He called the police, and ironically it was the same cop who was dispatched to him. Not going to say who the culprits were, but it's not the first time they have been in this area.
A few weeks ago another neighbor who is a councilor was at a meeting in town, small town so like many people he left the keys in his truck, was gone when he came out. The Liquor store across the street got it all on camera. They found it a few days later, not too far away stuck in a ditch, but he was alright, he just walked into my cousins yard and stole his truck, which was found a few days later, again stuck. This time he was caught trying to steal a snowmobile that hadn't run for years in someones shed. He was high on meth. I think theft will get worse as the economy plummets, and it seems to be very low on the courts priorities.

I have a buddy that works in the ER in Brandon, he said it's non-stop people on drugs and drunk. He says after a shift of that garbage a person is exhausted. Very frustrating that the police can't seem to make any progress on these issues when often the perps are well known. Too busy enforcing covid bylaws I suppose...

Well those damn peaceful truckers took a ton of police resources that could be used to catch real criminals. Still pisses me off the way that went down, but back on topic. Yeah, drugs are a big problem here too. A woman I went to school with and help her old man out on occasion is a nurse. She said the same thing as you SW, their record holder for overdoses in one month was 18-by one guy! How the f*ck do you over dose 18 times in one month??? Since the roads are open there have been a few more odd tracks, someone turning around in the middle of the road near yard sites but not at the driveways. Also pulled out two girls on a booze cruise two nights ago, I thought it was the neighbor messing around with something, but the dogs were going way to ape shit for that. This whole economy is going to make it interesting and I don't know how the thefts will play out. Thieves can't afford to fill the tank to scout, vehicles they steal to scout are empty because the owners can't fill them, and all the farmers around here are running on unicorn farts right now. I think the incidences of violence will be up though.

In Winnipeg , more reports of people drilling holes into vans or pickup trucks. Jeepers I wish they knew how to siphon gas properly from the lid. I guess that special craft has been lost due to the drugs being taken. Good topic kevlar and was frustrated the police would not believe the guy for speeding home. I dont have my fuel tanks locked at the fill cap but thought after it doesnt make a difference if someone drills a hole and steals 1000 gallons of gas or diesel that way.

A lady that manages the local liquor store said one month last fall that they had beat their record sales ever for one month by a good amount, I can't remember but something like 20-30% more, so drinking has definitely gotten worse. Drugs are rampant, have been for quite awhile around here for some reason. My niece is in high school, she says it's everywhere, she said every boy in her grade smokes weed, and most of them smoke it on their breaks. Thank god she has her head screwed on. Quite a few years ago I was going into town with the semi hauling grain when I came a round the curve into town, one of the drug dealers was pushing snow with his quad and was in the middle of the road, my instinct made me hit the breaks, his eyes were like saucers, then the first thing that went through my mind after I went by was "Why did I hit the brakes?" I could have smeared him for 50 feet down the road and done the town a favor. I always said if ever see any of my nieces or nephews or my kids in that yard, his days are done. I have a nephew that had a bad run with drugs and alcohol for a few years, but fortunately he has done a great job and is on back on a better path, I hope he can keep it sorted out, it's hard to see someone you love in that situation.
Speaking of an increase in violence, there was almost a domestic case in our house this morning. Our cistern ran empty overnight so had no water this morning. When helping your wife wash her hair with a 15 liter jug of cold bottled water, it's not a good time to comment on how much water she uses to wash her hair. Just so you know.
