"Done farming"
That's a good motto to have when you're at the lake. I love fishing, relaxing with a little excitement every once in awhile. Takes your mind away from the day to day issues.

Here, think I got a few pics. Are those pics of your dad's cabin area? I like the ridge view. Here is what I have setup. Nothing fancy. 10 x16 Ritchie bro special. Into it for around 6k. Building was 4500 not finished but wired. Bought what I could afford(still am) and did it when I had a chance. Gable ends, small kitchen area, heat, and outhouse are all that is left. Solar charges old equipment batteries and a cheap inverter. Have enough power to run a 24 inch box fan for about 8 hours. Generator if we want a pizza. The building sits about 100yardsoff the road that gets little traffic except seeding and harvest. 10 minute walk to the yard if needed and can barely hear the roosters. Be even quieter if I have my way. Best part is no one knows its there.

No, this area is about 30 miles north east of home around the south east side of Riding Mountain park, some very rugged but beautiful country. I almost drove my quad up to the ridge where my niece was standing in the picture as it looked like a trail to it, glad I didn't, drops off about 200 feet almost straight down! Guess the tracks was from someone who had dumped a bale over the edge and some garbage.
Love your cabin! I have a few different ideas in mind for what I want, thinking in the 16x20 foot range with a loft. Think I want to build it from scratch as I want the experience of building it with family. Also, a few of the spots I have in mind would be impossible to move something premade into. Have been keeping an eye open on different sites that sell used building supplies, with some patience I can do it fairly cheap, and I like cheap!!!

Thought I would start a thread for anyone who wishes to share what they like to do in their spare time Last Friday 5 of us went fishing for the day up at Limestone lake, about 1 1/2 hours north of me. Had a pretty good day, in about 3 hours we caught about 50 fish all together, 4 jacks and the rest walleye. Had to google Limestone as those are some nice numbers. Nostalgic, as growing up I'd always go up to Jan Lake (not too far away) and catch (and release) something like 450-550 fish (mainly walleye) over the 5 days we'd stay @ ThreeLakesCamp. Usually went first week of June and last week of August, which are kind of crappy times of year for grown-up me.

I enjoying riding horses with my daughter, or sometimes with a neighbour. Our family also shares a boat with two other families/friends. Very enjoyable to go camping for a few days and also see the kids enjoying some water sports. Even manage to do some water skiing and knee-boarding and wake boarding myself.

Are you close to Neerlandia, Victory? I didn't go through there much, but was surprised to see a coop there. I spent many years enjoying a trap line north of Timeu. Always loved going up to windfall lake with machines, but it would probably be easier with horses. Absolutely beautiful area.

Less than a 5 min drive from Neerlandia. We have a very nice Co-op here that is very well supported by members. Had to rebuild after the fire in 2013. Ended up with a new grocery store/home center. I'm guessing you did some fishing at Windfall.

Instead of cluttering up the covid thread I'll post it here. Got a pretty nice rink cleared off on the pond a half mile down the road, I think it will work really well. Just need to get a warming shack made up with maybe a propane heater in it, today was a beauty though.

Would an older holiday trailer work for such a thing, the idea of it being parked on solid ground and leveled. If it had a decent heater in it ( and they exhaust to the outside ) and the tanks on the hitch as typical. Put plywood down on the floor or a rubber mat that can take skate abuse and do the same thing to the steps to get or set something more substantial beside the trailer for a step as walking with skates is awkward. Being that a heater takes a fan or most do, a solar panel set to aim south and steep so the snow won't stick and a battery. Probably a crazy idea but its on wheels and portable to bring it home when not in season. Tear out items that are in the way for more floor space and just use chairs to sit on.
I think you need a rotating brush for a small tractor, that would clean off the ice really nice.

Hmmm, my parents camper is sitting here for the winter... The brush is a good idea, I wonder where one would find something like that? Got probably bigger than rink size cleaned off now, thinking on a warm day this week I will drill a hole and take a 2" pump out and flood it smooth and we will be good to go.

I'm sure you're parents wouldn't mind ( call it payback for storage fees )
I am not sure where or who makes the rotating brushes but I certainly have seen them on smallish tractors in town for contractors no doubt that are hired to clean sidewalks of snow at certain businesses that are willing to pay for such a service. Now I don't know what the finished job would look like due to dust billowing around but a brush might work for sweeping a shop floor and it would have to angle both ways and so on, possibly a rear three point hitch mount if its a tractor that has a loader on it and wanting both functions available. The dust kicked up might be too much for inside a shop and make a mess of things over the old tried and true push broom. However if one had a large cement pad outside of a shop and dropping mud and gravel on it at times, that would be the cats ass to clean it off with I'd think. Just an idea but the tractor would have to have a fair bit of hydraulic flow for such a tool as a power pack would be a pricey item.

Took the kids skating yesterday, brother had cleaned a spot off the day before. Surprised how smooth the ice was, it must have melted enough after it first froze because it was so windy when it froze earlier. Only an inch or two of soft snow on the lake so you could skate anywhere you wanted to, made me realize how out of shape I am! A few people had ice shacks out already, not sure how much ice but would think a good foot. I thought there would be people out ripping around on their sleds, but not one, guess unless they lived right on the lake there wouldn't be enough snow to ride them there. Been deer hunting a bit the last couple of weeks, seeing more now since it snowed, was pretty slow the first few days, mind you I had a kid almost every day the first week because of school cancellations and inservices and Remembrance day, might as well be blowing a fog horn when hunting with young kids! Was still fun though, me and my daughter spent a couple nights with dad at his shack, want to try get as many of those memories for the kids before it's too late. Was a little upsetting seeing dad there mostly by himself as most of the people he used to hunt and party with are now gone or unable to get there anymore because of age.
